Puffy is a new-on-the-scene mattress company that has received some buzz since it launched in 2017. The company produces two different mattresses — the Puffy and Puffy Lux — that are both all-foam with a memory foam comfort layer.
Some of the key strengths of the Puffy mattresses include:
- Thick comfort layer: the comfort layer in each of the mattresses from Puffy is at least 3” thick and made with gel-infused memory foam. Having a comfort layer that is of this thickness makes the top layer better able to provide support regardless of weight or sleeping position.
- Lifetime warranty: the company provides a lifetime warranty in the case of defects in the mattress, including complete replacement of the mattress in the first 10 years after purchase.
Potential drawbacks for the Puffy mattresses include:
- Limited track record: there simply is not enough information from verified customer data to evaluate the performance of the Puffy or Puffy Lux. With more time and customer reviews, we will have a clearer picture, but for now, the short time on the market for these mattresses reduces both the quality and quantity of our data.
- Unknown mattress specifications: the company does not openly list the nitty-gritty details of the foams used to compose the mattress, specifically the density of each foam layer.

About the Puffy Mattress
Puffy Mattress Specifications
There are two different mattresses made by Puffy. The standard Puffy mattress has two layers while the Puffy Lux mattress is made with three layers.
Top: 4” Cooling Cloud gel-infused memory foam
Bottom: 6” support polyfoam
Top: 3” Cooling Cloud gel-infused memory foam
Second: 2” Puffy Plush Cloud polyfoam
Bottom: 7” support polyfoam
While a general description of each of the foam layers is provided by the company, there are no detailed specifications provided. For example, the company does not list the density of any of these foam layers.
Where It’s Made
Both of the Puffy mattresses are made in the USA.
Where to Buy
The Puffy mattresses are only available online through the company’s website.
Sleep Trial / Refunds
Both the Puffy and Puffy Lux mattress come with a 101-night sleep trial. At any point during the sleep trial, you can return the mattress for any reason and receive a full refund. The company will pick up the mattress from your home if you decide to return it.
Shipping by FedEx is included in the price of every Puffy mattress, and the mattress typically arrives within 5 business days.
These mattresses are all delivered as a bed-in-a-box. This means that the mattress is compressed to a smaller size, placed in plastic packaging, and shipped inside a large box to your front door. When you remove the mattress from this packaging, it expands to reach its full size. No services are offered for setup of the mattress or haul-way of an old mattress.
Puffy provides a lifetime warranty for both the Puffy and Puffy Lux. In the first 10 years of the warranty, the company will replace a mattress with any defects in materials or workmanship. After 10 years, the company will either repair or replace the mattress if it is defective. The company covers any transportation costs associated with a warranty return.
Puffy also offers a “Quick Sleep” component to the warranty. This applies after 10 years, and it allows you to purchase a brand new Puffy mattress at half of your original purchase price.
Full warranty terms are available on the company’s website at https://puffy.com/pages/puffy-mattress-warranty.
Puffy launched as a mattress company in 2017, and as a result, there is insufficient data about their customer service reputation. The company is not rated by the Better Business Bureau (BBB).
The Puffy mattresses are built using generally straightforward designs for all-foam mattresses. Unfortunately, the short time that these mattresses have been on the market limits the amount of data that we have about their performance.
The term support refers to how effectively a mattress promotes the proper alignment of the spine. Responsiveness is a key aspect of support because it helps the mattress provide the right amount of contouring to each individual part of the body.
Each of the Puffy mattresses includes a memory foam comfort layer that can be expected to offer considerable pressure point relief. The nature of memory foam is to be highly responsive as it can compress directly in proportion to the weight that is applied. In both of these mattresses, the memory foam layer is at least 3” thick, which helps to improve its ability to accommodate the pressure points of sleepers of all sizes and sleeping positions.
There is no long-term data about the durability of the Puffy mattresses since they have only been on the market starting in 2017. In addition, because the company does not disclose the detailed specifications of the foams that are used, we are unable to speculate about how well those foams will hold up over time. For example, we know that high-density foams have a longer useful life, but we don’t know whether the foams in these mattresses can be considered high-density.
The Puffy and Puffy Lux are both on the firmer side. On the typical firmness scale, the Puffy is a 7-8 (Firm) while the Puffy Lux is a 6-7 (Medium Firm).
Mattresses with a thick memory foam comfort layer, like both the Puffy and Puffy Lux, usually do an excellent job of isolating motion. The way that memory foam contours to the body helps to limit any transfer of motion from one part of the mattress to another. Even though these are firmer styles of memory foam, we still expect this contouring to ensure considerable motion isolation.
As with virtually every all-foam mattress, the Puffy and Puffy Lux should be expected to give off a minor odor when they are first removed from their packaging. There is no health risk associated with this odor, and if the room is well-ventilated, it should go away within a few hours or a few days at the longest.
Sleeping hot is an issue that affects a number of people who sleep on mattresses with a memory foam comfort layer. Because of the “hug” of memory foam, airflow around the body can be blocked, causing heat retention. However, for the Puffy mattresses, we do not expect sleepers to have significant issues when it comes to temperature regulation for two reasons. First, the firmness of the mattress will help control how deeply someone sinks into the mattress, reducing airflow issues. Second, the foams used by the company are designed to reduce heat retention and make it easier to sleep cool.
Some memory foam mattresses have issues when it comes to facilitating sex because people find it hard to move on top of the mattress when they rapidly sink into it. But this tends to be a more significant issue with plush memory foams, and both the Puffy and Puffy Lux are relatively firm.
The table below provides a comparison of some mattresses with similarities to the Puffy mattresses in terms of construction and feel.
