PangeaBed launched its mattress in the spring of 2017. A key focus of the Pangea mattress is its use of copper-infused Talalay latex as its primary comfort layer.
Some of the key strengths of the Pangea mattress include:
- Copper-infused comfort layer: one of the main selling points of the Pangea mattress is its use of copper in the comfort layer. The copper is included with the intention of improving the cooling and antibacterial properties of the mattress.
- Latex and memory foam combination: for people who may be having a hard time choosing between latex and memory foam, the Pangea mattress has one layer of Talalay latex and one layer of gel-infused memory foam.
Potential drawbacks for the Pangea mattress include:
- Mattress specifications are not disclosed: we don’t know the detailed specifications for the Pangea mattress including the density of all of the individual foam layers. This takes away from our ability to evaluate this mattress, and we generally can’t recommend a mattress without knowing its specifications. The one layer that we do have this information about — the 3 PCF memory foam layer — has a lower density than we typically recommend in a comfort layer.
- Limited track record: the company has only had its mattress on the market since early 2017, and there are limited numbers of verified reviews that allow us to speak confidently about its performance and durability.

About the Pangea Mattress
Pangea Mattress Specifications
The Pangea mattress is built with four layers. The top layer is a quilted cover that includes ⅝” of soft foam. The second layer is 1.5” of copper-infused Talalay latex. The third layer is 1.5” of gel-infused memory foam with a density of 3 PCF. The bottom layer is 7” of support foam.
Pangea does not disclose the density or ILD of all of the foams that are included in the layers of their mattress. Foam density is an important indicator of the quality of the foam and its likely durability. Without knowing these specifications, it is hard to assess the Pangea mattress, and it is also difficult for consumers to comparison shop.
Where It’s Made
The Pangea mattress is made in the USA.
Where To Buy
The Pangea mattress is available directly from the company’s website and through Amazon.
Sleep Trial / Refunds
PangeaBed offers a 100 night sleep trial. During this time period, you can return the mattress for any reason to receive a full refund. While the company asks that you try the mattress for 30 days before initiating a return, this is not required.
If you decide to return the mattress, the company will work with you to try to donate the mattress to a local charity. When you submit the donation receipt to the company, they refund your purchase price.
Be aware that terms of the sleep trial and returns may be different for mattresses purchased through a third party like Amazon. It is important to check with Amazon and/or Pangea to confirm these terms if you decide to buy from Amazon.
Pangea offers free shipping within the United States. The mattress ships within 5 business days after it is ordered and usually arrives within 1 to 7 business days after that.
The mattress arrives within a box that is delivered to your doorstep. No installation or setup services are offered by the company. Inside the box is a safety cutter that allows you to remove the mattress from the packaging without damaging the mattress itself.
After you remove the mattress from the packaging, it decompresses and expands to reach its full size. This process should be complete within 20-30 minutes.
The Pangea mattress comes with a 10-year limited warranty. During this warranty period, the company will repair or replace the mattress if there are any defects in materials or workmanship. The customer is responsible for any shipping costs associated with a warranty claim. You can read full warranty details online at https://www.pangeabed.com/warranty/.
We have limited information about Pangea’s customer service. As with most companies in this field, Pangea’s website emphasizes its commitment to customer service. The company does not currently have a rating from the Better Business Bureau.
The Pangea mattress is built with 4 distinct layers. The comfort layer is built with copper-infused Talalay latex, and this is a focal point for the company’s selling points for the mattress.
The primary support from this mattress comes from the layers built with Talalay latex and with memory foam. Both of these materials are commonly used in mattress comfort layers and are well-regarded for offering a solid level of support. Latex and memory foam are responsive materials, which means that they compress where weight and pressure is applied. When pressure is removed, latex bounces back more quickly than memory foam. Because the Pangea mattress has latex as its top comfort layer, it can be expected to have more bounce than if it were built with memory foam on the top.
Our primary concern with the supportiveness of the Pangea mattress relates to the thickness and density of these foams. The latex and memory foam layers are each 1.5” thick, and the memory foam layer has a density of 3 PCF. We typically prefer a thicker comfort layer and density of at least 3.5 PCF. This is of particular concern for sleepers with major pressure points or for heavier sleepers (over approximately 230 pounds).
The Pangea bed has not been on the market long enough to evaluate its overall durability. In addition, without knowing the density of all the mattress layers, it is more difficult to predict the durability of the mattress.
While the company does list the density of the memory foam layer (3 PCF), unfortunately, that falls below the 3.5 PCF level that we usually prefer to see in a comfort layer.
The Pangea mattress is only offered at one firmness level, which falls around a 5-6 on the typical firmness scale.
Talalay latex has more bounce than memory foam, but given its responsiveness, most sleepers find that it provides sufficient motion isolation to prevent disruption from the movement of a partner or pet.
Virtually every foam mattress that is delivered as a bed-in-a-box can be expected to have some smell right when it is removed from the packaging. But this odor is not harmful and should quickly dissipate — usually within a few hours or a few days.
The Pangea mattress has several elements of its design that are intended to help prevent people from sleeping hot. First, it uses copper-infused latex, and copper has been advanced as a way to reduce heat retention in a mattress. Second, the memory foam layer has gel-infused memory foam, which may also help to reduce heat buildup (although reviews on this are inconclusive). Third, the resilience of latex usually limits heat retention because sleepers do not sink into the bed or feel stuck in the mattress, which can limit airflow.
Because of its resilience and spring-like feeling, latex is often considered to be the best type of mattress comfort layer for facilitating sex. With Talalay latex as its primary comfort layer, the Pangea mattress is unlikely to cause disruptions to sexual activity.
