Overview

Nest Bedding sells mattresses with many different compositions and styles. The Alexander Signature Hybrid features a combination of pocketed innerspring coils, transition foam, and memory foam.

In January 2017, the Nest Bedding company announced a merger with Brooklyn Bedding, which was its primary supplier. You can read more about offerings directly from Brooklyn Bedding in our review of their #BestMattressEver.

Some of the key strengths of the Nest Alexander Signature Hybrid mattress include:

  • Greater responsiveness and bounce: by including both innerspring coils and memory foam, a hybrid mattress like this one offers a unique combination of supportiveness and resilience.
  • Two firmness options: Nest offers this mattress either as Medium or Luxury Firm, which provides customers a greater ability to find the best version for their preferences.
  • Thick quilted cover: both firmness models of the Alexander Signature Hybrid have a 2” thick quilted cover. This may be a desirable feature for people who are used to or want a pillowtop type feel.

Potential drawbacks for the Nest Alexander Signature Hybrid mattress include:

  • Polarizing pillowtop: while the pillowtop feel may be a plus for some people, it can be a problem for others. It may contribute to a softer and plusher feel than some other direct-to-consumer hybrid mattresses.
  • Limited track record: though Nest Bedding generally has a strong reputation, this mattress has not been on the market long enough to confidently know how well it will stand the test of time and use.

Buying Logistics

Sleep Trial / Refunds

The Nest Alexander Signature Hybrid mattress comes with a 100 night sleep trial. The company requests that you try the bed out for 30 nights, but if you aren’t satisfied, you have up to 100 nights to get a full refund. If you decide to return the mattress, Nest Bedding will give you a return authorization. If you verify that you have donated the mattress to a local charity, Nest refunds your purchase price.

If you purchase this mattress through Amazon, your sleep trial is still 100 nights; however, any returns must be coordinated with Amazon rather than with Nest Alexander Signature Hybrid directly.

Delivery

Shipping of the Nest Alexander Signature Hybrid mattress is free within the continental United States. The mattress takes 2-4 days to be made and to leave the factory, and then it can take 1-5 additional business days to be delivered.

Standard delivery of these mattresses does not include any installation. The mattress is compressed into plastic packaging and then shipped inside a box that arrives at your door. When the mattress is removed from this packaging, it expands. While you can sleep on it soon after unboxing, it may take up to 48 hours for the mattress to reach its full size.

Same-day delivery may be available for customers in the San Francisco Bay or Los Angeles areas. In addition, the company offers white glove delivery with rates that vary based on location. You can contact Nest Bedding directly for a price quote on white glove service.

Warranty

The Nest Alexander Signature Hybrid mattress comes with a 20-year warranty. During this time, the company will replace or repair your mattress if there are any defects in craftsmanship. You can find the full warranty terms at https://www.nestbedding.com/pages/nest-warranty.

Customer Service

Nest Bedding recently merged with Brooklyn Bedding, which started as a mattress company in 1995 and moved to the online model in 2009. Both Nest Bedding and Brooklyn Bedding have solid reputations for customer service, and Brooklyn Bedding has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau.

Mattress Performance

Hybrid mattresses like the Nest Alexander Signature Hybrid seek to capture the best of all worlds by getting the supportiveness and bounce of an innerspring mattress with the contouring and comfort of memory foam.

Support

The Nest Alexander Signature Hybrid has typically received high marks for its support. Innerspring coils offer a strong and responsive base, and then memory foam can help to relieve pressure points and assist in obtaining proper spinal alignment.

Durability

One challenge with the Alexander Signature Hybrid is that it hasn’t been on the market long enough to evaluate its durability. Details about the exact construction of the mattress coils is limited, but Nest Bedding generally has a reputation for using high-quality materials. As a result, there is good reason to believe that this mattress should perform at least as well over time as most of its competitors.

Firmness

On the typical firmness scale, the Medium model is considered to be around a 5-6 while the Luxury Firm falls between a 7-8. Each individual’s perception of the firmness, though, may be affected by the quilted cover. The cover is 2” tall and has foam sewn into it, which can give the mattress more of a pillowtop type feel. This may make it feel more plush, which can be a positive or a negative depending on your comfort preference and sleeping position.

Motion Transfer

Hybrid mattresses typically offer a bit more bounce than traditional memory foam as a result of the innerspring coils. Because of this, there may be somewhat more motion transfer on this mattress than some other options. Nevertheless, the Alexander Signature Hybrid should offer enough motion isolation to allow for a good night’s sleep for most people sharing the mattress.

Offgassing

While there are several foam layers in this mattress, it has considerably less foam than many other direct-to-consumer options. This means that there is very little smell or offgassing, and any issues with this should go away within a few days at most.

Sleeping Hot

The combination of the quilted cover and memory foam — which is known for its contouring and hug — may cause some people to feel that this mattress sleeps hot. Nest has built its comfort layer with copper-infused memory foam. The copper is intended to help conduct heat away in order to prevent heat retention. There is limited hard data about how effective this is, but most sleepers have not reported serious problems of sleeping hot on this mattress.

Intimacy

The added bounce that comes from the innerspring layer should help to ensure that this mattress does not get in the way of sexual activity.
