Luxi Mattress Overview
Luxi was founded in 2015 with an attempt to disrupt the burgeoning online mattress industry through their focus on the ability for their mattress to be adjusted after the initial sale and delivery.
Some of the key strengths of the Luxi mattress include
- Adjustable design: the Luxi’s was built with modification in mind. By simply unzipping the cover and rearranging the comfort layers, customers can significantly change the firmness and overall performance of the mattress. For people who want flexibility in their mattress, the Luxi is an intriguing option.
- Specialized foam layer: the Luxi’s support balancing technology (SBT) memory foam layer has a radically different design than most other memory foams with the potential to offer a supportive and cool sleep surface.
- Best-in-industry sleep trial: the company offers a 1000 night sleep trial, which is nearly ten times the industry average.
Potential drawbacks for the Luxi mattress include
- Limited track record: Luxi is still very new to the market, and with novel designs and foams, it is hard to know how effectively they have achieved their goal of satisfying customers’ needs for both support and comfort.
- Potentially burdensome for consumers: while the adjustability of the mattress can be a plus for some, others may find this process to be cumbersome or unnecessarily complicated. Some customers may also find that the adjustments do not lead to significant changes in feel.

About the Luxi Mattress
Luxi Mattress Specifications
The Luxi mattress is composed with four layers covered by a ¾” quilted cover with a fiber fll. We have described the four internal layers below:
- 3.5” memory foam with a density of 4 PCF and featuring support balancing technology (SBT). SBT is a patent-pending foam design that has many individual foam columns.
- 1” memory foam with a density of 4 PCF.
- 1.5” latex foam with a density of 4 PCF. The latex is made with the Dunlop process, which typically creates a latex with slightly less bounce.
- 3.5” support foam with a density of 2 PCF.
The mattress is shipped with these layers aligned in the order described above, but the cover can be unzipped to allow the customer to rearrange the layers. This permits sleepers to organize the layers in three different configurations to achieve a soft, medium, or firm feel.
Where It’s Made
The Luxi mattress is manufactured in the USA.
Sleep Trial / Refunds
Luxi offers a best-in-industry sleep trial of 1000 nights. The company asks that you use the mattress for 30 nights before initiating a return. Because the mattress is adjustable, the company will suggest potential adjustments that could help resolve any comfort or support issues. However, if you are unsatisfied with the mattress during the trial period, you can return it and receive a full refund. In this case, the company will work with a charity to try to have your mattress picked up and donated.
Delivery of the Luxi is free for customers in all 50 U.S. states and Canada. After ordering, it takes 3-5 business days for the mattress to be manufactured and then another 1-5 business days for it to be delivered.
The mattress is delivered as a bed-in-a-box, meaning that it is compressed into plastic packaging and delivered inside a box to your doorstep. To set up the mattress, you simply remove it from the packaging, and it decompresses to reach its full size. The mattress is sleep-ready immediately but may take 24 hours to reach its full size and firmness.
Luxi does not offer installation services. If you need haul-away of your old mattress, you can work with the company’s mattress disposal partner for an extra charge. The cost for this service depends on your location.
The Luxi mattress comes with a 10-year warranty. During this time, the company will replace or repair your mattress if there are any defects in craftsmanship. Transportation and/or shipping costs associated with warranty repair or replacement is not covered under this warranty. You can find the full warranty terms at https://luxisleep.com/products/the-luxi-mattress.
Luxi is still very new to the online mattress marketplace, and because of this, it is hard to fully assess their customer service. The company focuses on empowering customers to calibrate their mattress to suit their individual needs, and much of this is based around an attentive customer service team. Only time will tell how well the company lives up to this goal. Thus far, we are not aware of any serious concerns or complaints about Luxi’s customer service. The company does not have a rating from the Better Business Bureau.
The fully adjustable mattress composed with two types of memory foam and latex gives the Luxi a very unique design that has the potential to offer many benefits to customers.
The specialized SBT foam from Luxi is new to the market, and it is challenging to evaluate its supportiveness. Both memory foam and latex, though, are well-regarded for their supportiveness. The adjustable nature of this mattress allows sleepers to choose which material and layering is best for them based on their sleeping position and associated support needs. Each of these foams works by responding proportionally to the pressure that is applied, which allows for them to relieve pressure points across the body.
One of the primary factors that influences the durability of a mattress is the density of its foam layers. Every foam layer in this mattress is made with above-average density, which should bode well for the long-term performance of the mattress.
Luxi ships this mattress in an alignment for medium firmness, but customers can unzip the mattress to adjust the firmness level. The image below illustrates how the different layers can be changed to offer a different comfort level and feel.
Some independent evaluations of this mattress have found that these different alignments did not accurately reflect the true firmness experienced by the sleeper. Because of how new this mattress is to the market, we can’t yet say how reliably the mattress achieves its different firmness goals, but customers focused on having a specific feel may prefer a mattress with a longer track record.
The composition of this mattress should be effective at limiting motion transfer in a way that prevents major disruption from sharing the mattress. However, both latex and the SBT layer may have slightly more motion transfer than traditional memory foams, so customers who are easily disrupted while sleeping may want to opt for classic memory foam.
As with almost all foam mattresses, you can expect some slight new mattress smell after removing the Luxi from its packaging. This smell is not harmful, though, and should dissipate within a few hours or at most a few days.
Several aspects of the Luxi mattress are designed to reduce the risk of sleeping hot. The SBT layer has considerably more open-air spaces than most memory foams, which helps to prevent heat retention. In addition, if customers find they are sleeping hot, they can readjust the layering to try to find a preferable alignment that has a better sleeping temperature.
Some people feel like they get stuck in memory foam comfort layers and that this can inhibit sexual activity. While this could occur on the Luxi, people concerned about this could also use the latex layer toward the top of the mattress to increase the amount of bounce and resiliency from the mattress.
The table below provides a comparison of some mattresses with similarities to the Luxi mattress in terms of construction and feel.
