The Lucid brand of mattresses are manufactured by Linenspa, a retailer of many different bedding products. Lucid produces mattresses made primarily of memory foam and one made of latex. This review focuses on the memory foam options.
Some of the key strengths of the Lucid memory foam mattresses include:
- Extremely competitive prices: for people looking for an extremely low-cost memory foam option, it’s hard to find lower prices than those offered by Lucid.
- Simple design: unlike many brands that have numerous layers and complex construction, the Lucid mattresses are straightforward and simple. If you are feeling overwhelmed by all the different mattress designs on the market, the Lucid line may offer the simplicity that you’re looking for.
Potential drawbacks for the Lucid memory foam mattresses include:
- Unknown foam specifications: Lucid does not provide any detailed information about the composition of their foams. For example, the density (measured in PCF) and firmness (measured in ILD) is not listed for any of their mattresses. This makes it difficult to evaluate the quality or durability of their products.
- Short return window: Lucid is one of the few direct-to-consumer mattress companies that does not offer a significant sleep trial period. They only permit returns within 30 days.
- Thin comfort layers: many of the most affordable Lucid mattresses have very thin comfort layers of memory foam. This may put more pressure on the support layer, which can limit comfort and may threaten the long-term durability of the mattress.
We also have a review for the Lucid latex mattresses if you’d like to learn more about their other offerings.

About the Lucid Memory Foam Mattresses
Lucid Mattresses Specifications
Lucid manufacturers 9 different models of memory foam mattresses. They typically have a very similar build-style, and details about their design and composition is listed in the table below.
Lucid does not list information the full specifications of these mattresses. For example, the company does not disclose the densities of the foams used in the support or comfort layers. As a result, we have serious concerns about the quality of these mattresses, especially given their extremely low price. The lack of detailed specifications also limits your ability to effectively comparison shop.

Many of these mattresses are advertised with specific features based on their composition. This is a brief overview of some of these that you may find in the product descriptions:
- Gel memory foam: this foam has small beads infused with gel that are interspersed within the foam. The goal of this is to improve cooling, but reviews are mixed about whether it can achieve that effect.
- Ventilated foam: small grooves are cut into some of these mattresses support foams in order to try to prevent heat retention and allow airflow for cooling.
- Bamboo charcoal memory foam: bamboo charcoal has a reputation for absorbency, so bamboo charcoal is added to the foam with the goal of improving odor and moisture control.
Where It’s Made
Lucid mattresses are manufactured in China.
Where to Buy
Lucid mattresses are sold online through the company’s website and through Linenspa. They are also sold through many major retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Home Depot, and others.
Sleep Trial / Refunds
Lucid does not offer an extended sleep trial like those offered by most online mattress sellers. They accept returns within 30 days of purchase. If you decide to return the mattress, in some cases, Lucid or Linenspa may pick up it up. In other cases, you may need to make the mattress available for shipping, but Linenspa covers the costs of return ground shipping.
Please note that these policies apply only to mattresses purchased directly from Lucid. If you purchase from a third party retailer, then your purchase would be subject to that retailer’s terms and conditions regarding returns.
When ordering directly from Lucid, delivery is included in the cost of the mattress. All Lucid mattresses are delivered as a bed in a box. This means that the mattress is rolled, compressed, and sealed in plastic packaging. It is then delivered to your doorstep. After you remove the mattress from the packaging, it decompresses. The company recommends that you let the mattress decompress for 24 hours, and it may take up to 48 hours for it to reach its full size and firmness.
Delivery does not include any installation services or haul-away of your old mattress.
Lucid and Linenspa offer a 25-year warranty for their mattresses. This warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship, and if such a defect is found, the company will replace or repair the mattress or refund your purchase price.
Linenspa has been in business for over 12 years but has a somewhat spotty track record as it relates to customer service. The company has a D+ rating from the Better Business Bureau.
It is important to remember as well that depending on where the mattress is purchased, Lucid and Linenspa may not provide direct customer service. Instead, service needs may be handled through the retailer who sells the mattress. Because of this, customers should purchase this mattress from a retailer that they are familiar with and that has a good reputation for customer service.
The Lucid mattresses are generally about as simple as you will find in the direct-to-consumer mattress market. These are certainly not your highest quality foams, and while you can expect to find the general characteristics of memory foam, sleepers should not expect excellence in the mattress performance for these models.
Memory foam can be a supportive material for most sleepers because it is very responsive to the pressure that is applied by each part of your body. However, in order for this to occur, the memory foam must be sufficiently dense, and the foam must be thick enough to accommodate the pressure. Almost all of the mattresses from Lucid have top comfort layers with 2” or less of memory foam. If we knew that this was extremely high-quality foam, this might be less concerning, but without knowing the specifications, we are wary of how well this will support most sleepers. It may be an even bigger problem for heavier sleepers or people with serious pressure points.
While there is limited data about the overall durability of the Lucid memory foam mattresses, we would not expect these products to be a long-term solution for most people. Lower-density foams are more prone to sagging or indenting, and thin comfort layers mean that sleepers will put more pressure on the underlying base foams.
Each mattress model from Lucid is available in only one firmness option, and Lucid does not list the ILD of their comfort layers. Perception of firmness can be very individualized and subjective, but the table below gives an idea of where these mattresses may fall on the typical firmness scale.
|16″ Latex Hybrid||2-3|
Because most people sink at least partially into memory foam, it tends to be very effective at preventing motion transfer. Memory foam normally is a strong choice for people who are concerned about being disturbed in their sleep.
Memory foam mattresses typically release organic compounds as they decompress, and you should expect this to occur with the Lucid mattresses. While not harmful, the smell can be expected to last a few days before going away. Smell-sensitive customers may want to be consider mattresses composed of materials other than memory foam.
Memory foam can cause people to overheat when sleeping because the cradling effect of the foam can reduce airflow. In addition, as the foam gets warmer, the cradling effect is amplified, so some people find they sleep hotter as the night goes on. While the Lucid mattresses use gel-infused memory foam, it isn’t clear whether this actually has a significant effect on heat retention.
Memory foams sink when pressure is applied, and this causes some people to feel stuck in the mattress. Some sleepers find that this disrupts sexual activity. Latex or innerspring mattresses may be a better choice for consumers concerned about finding the optimal mattress for sex.
The table below provides a comparison of some mattresses with similarities to the Lucid line of mattresses in terms of construction and feel.
