Leesa launched its mattress in 2014 and hasn’t looked back, quickly becoming one of the most well-known names in the online mattress industry.

Some of the key strengths of the Leesa mattress include

  • Specialized comfort layer: the Leesa mattress uses proprietary Avena™ foam for its top comfort layer. This material has many similar properties to latex, which allows it to quickly spring back to its original shape. This resiliency provides a feel that is unique from memory foam and latex.
  • Solid support and bounce: the Avena foam layer is on top of a layer of memory foam, and this combination allows the Leesa to offer both strong support and bounce.

Potential drawbacks for the Leesa mattress include

  • Only one firmness option: Leesa is only offered in one firmness option, so any sleepers who prefer a mattress outside of the 6-7 range for firmness likely would not sleep well on the Leesa.
  • Some durability concerns: though not universal, some customers have complained about the Leesa’s durability. There are indications that it may be more prone to indentation or sagging than some other foam mattresses.

Buying Logistics

Sleep Trial / Refunds

The Leesa mattress comes with a 100 night sleep trial. The company requests that you try the bed out for 30 nights, but if you aren’t satisfied, you have up to 100 nights to get a full refund. If you decide to return the mattress, Leesa arranges to have it picked up and donated or recycled.

If you purchase a Leesa mattress through Amazon, your sleep trial is still 100 nights; however, any returns must be coordinated with Amazon rather than with Leesa directly.

Shipping of the Leesa mattress is free via UPS ground to all 50 states and Canada. The mattress usually ships within 2-4 business days and arrives a few days after that.

No installation services are offered as part of Leesa mattress delivery. Instead, a box with the mattress compressed within plastic packaging arrives at your doorstep. Once you open the packaging, the mattress decompresses. It should reach its full size within an hour, although it may not reach its full firmness for a few days.

Leesa and Box

The Leesa mattress comes with a 10-year warranty. During this time, the company will replace or repair your mattress if there are any defects in craftsmanship. Transportation and/or shipping costs associated with warranty repair or replacement is not covered under this warranty. You can find the full warranty terms at https://support.leesa.com/hc/en-us/articles/234444488-Does-Leesa-provide-a-warranty-.

Customer Service

Even though Leesa is still a young company, it has a longer track record than most of the direct-to-consumer mattress sellers. Thus far, the company has earned a strong reputation for its customer service. Leesa has a B+ rating from the Better Business Bureau.

Mattress Performance

With its combination of Avena foam and memory foam layers, the Leesa mattress appeals to a wide range of sleepers and has received high marks for its overall performance.

The Leesa mattress includes two layers of relatively high-density foams, and as a result, it has been well-regarded for its overall level of support. For most sleepers, it provides this support through its responsiveness to pressure that doesn’t come along with a feeling of sinking deep into the mattress. Striking this balance can help to ensure proper spinal alignment.

While some third party testers have found the Leesa to meet high standards of durability, a number of customers have found the mattress lacking in this area. A certain level of wear is to be expected with any mattress, but there are reports from sleepers of pronounced sagging or indentation of the mattress. As the Leesa has only been on the market since 2014, more time is needed before we can judge its overall long-term durability.

Leesa offers only one level of firmness, which falls around a 6-7 on the typical firmness scale. For people who prefer a more plush or more firm feel, the Leesa probably isn’t the right fit, but this mid-level firmness tends to be comfortable for sleepers in most sleeping positions.

Motion Transfer

The Leesa mattress performs well on tests of motion isolation; however, its high level of bounce from the Avena foam layer makes it less adept at motion isolation than traditional memory foams.

Like most foam mattresses, some offgassing can be expected after the Leesa is unboxed; however, in most cases, any smell dissipates within a few hours to a few days. Extremely smell-sensitive customers may prefer a mattress made without any large foam layers.

Sleeping Hot

Most sleepers find that they do not have any problems sleeping hot on the Leesa mattress. Because of the reduced deep contouring and the increased resilience of the Avena foam, the Leesa sleeps cooler than many other foam mattress competitors.

The ability of the Leesa’s comfort layer to quickly spring back to its original shape makes the Leesa one of the top options for customers who prioritize a mattress based on how it facilitates sexual activity.
