GhostBed Luxe Mattress Overview
GhostBed, which is owned by the larger mattress manufacturer Nature’s Sleep, initially started with just one mattress, the original GhostBed. Recently, the company has launched a second mattress, the GhostBed Luxe, which incorporates several design elements intended to make the mattress sleep cool.
Some of the key strengths of the GhostBed Luxe mattress include:
- Built to sleep cool: this mattress has specialized fabric woven into its cover as well as a phase-change material (PCM) placed above one layer of memory foam, and both of these are intended to help prevent heat retention in the mattress.
- Thick comfort layer made with multiple foams: some mattresses have only a very thin comfort layer, but the Ghostbed Luxe has a combined 5” of different foams, which helps to provide proper cushioning and support.
Potential drawbacks for the GhostBed Luxe mattress include:
- Limited track record: the Ghostbed Luxe has not been available for that long, which has meant a reduced number of verified reviews, especially reviews that cover long-term use of the mattress.
- Full specifications not listed: while the company gives some details about the composition of the mattress and its individual layers, there is still detail missing including about the density of some of the foams that are used.

About the GhostBed Luxe Mattress
GhostBed Luxe Mattress Specifications
The GhostBed Luxe is built using 7 different layers. Two of these layers — the “Ghost Ice” layers — are very thin but include the materials that are designed to help the mattress sleep cool. The layers are described below:
Top: Quilted cover with “Ghost Ice” fabric
Second: ½” fiber fill
Third: 1” gel-infused memory foam
Fourth: thin layer of “Ghost Ice” phase-change material
Fifth: 2” gel-infused memory foam with density of 4 PCF
Sixth: 2” latex-like polyfoam
Seventh: 7.5” support polyfoam
While GhostBed lists the density of one of the memory foam layers, this information is not disclosed for the other layers.
Where It’s Made
The GhostBed Luxe mattress is manufactured in the USA.
Where to Buy
The GhostBed Luxe mattress is available directly from the company’s website and on Amazon.
Sleep Trial / Refunds
The GhostBed Luxe comes with a 101 night sleep trial. The company requires that you keep the mattress for 30 nights to try it out, but after that break-in period and up to the 101st night, you can return the mattress and receive a full refund. The company picks up the mattress at no charge if you decide that you want to return it.
Customers who are considering buying this mattress through Amazon should take note that the terms for the sleep trial are different if the mattress is not purchased directly from GhostBed. Amazon’s 30-day return policy would apply rather than the 101 night sleep trial, and any returns would have to be coordinated with Amazon.
GhostBed delivers the GhostBed Luxe mattress for free to the contiguous United States. The mattress is delivered via FedEx, and exact shipping time depends on your location.
The GhostBed Luxe is compressed and shipped in a box to your doorstep. After you have removed the mattress from its packaging, it expands to reach its full size.
GhostBed does not offer setup, haul-away of an old mattress, or white glove delivery.
This mattress comes with a 20-year limited warranty that protects against defects in manufacturing or workmanship. The warranty covers repair or replacement during the first 10 years and then is prorated in the last 10 years. Full warranty details are available at https://www.ghostbed.com/warranty/.
GhostBed, despite having a stated intention to provide the highest level of customer service, has had some negative reports related to its customer care. For example, the company has a C+ rating from the Better Business Bureau. GhostBed was founded in 2015 and is part of a larger company, Nature’s Sleep, that was founded in 2001.
If you purchase this mattress through Amazon, most customer service inquiries will be handled by Amazon rather than GhostBed.
Foam mattresses like the GhostBed Luxe generally have a strong track record when it comes to mattress performance. Thus far, the GhostBed Luxe has received average to above-average customer reviews, and many have found it to perform well when it comes to sleeping cool.
This mattress uses a combination of foams, a total of 5” of foam, to provide support. This includes both memory foam and a more resilient, latex-like foam. Memory foam offers support through its ability to respond to the pressure of the body and relieve pressure points. The latex-like foam works in concert by giving some additional bounce to the mattress, prevent sagging or excessive contouring.
There is no long-term data available regarding the durability of the GhostBed Luxe. In addition, while the density of the 2” memory foam layer (4 PCF) is good, we do not know the densities of the other foam layers. Because one weak layer can degrade the overall performance of a mattress, we are constrained in our ability to effectively assess the expected lifespan of the GhostBed Luxe.
The GhostBed Luxe is only offered in one firmness level, which is around medium. It is around a 5 to 6 out of 10 on the typical firmness scale.
Even with the additional bounce provided by the latex-like polyfoam in the GhostBed Luxe, this mattress still offers a high level of motion isolation. The memory foam layers protect against motion transfer because of the way that they contour to the body and only respond in areas where pressure is directly applied. Very few customers are likely to find that they have issues with motion transfer on this mattress.
Customers should expect some odor when they open the box and set up their mattress. This is normal for foam mattresses, and the smell is not harmful and typically goes away within a few hours or at most a few days.
The GhostBed Luxe outperforms many other foam mattresses when it comes to sleeping hot. This is because of the cooling design features — the “Ghost Ice” materials — as well as the latex-like polyfoam that helps to hedge against sinking extremely deeply into the mattress.
While this mattress certainly will not offer the kind of bounce found in an innerspring of all-latex mattress, it should provide sufficient bounce to facilitate an active sex life. Reports of this mattress interfering with sex are rare, but customers who want the optimal mattress for sex should generally not choose a mattress with a comfort layer of memory foam.
