Denver Mattress has been in the business of making mattresses since the 1970s. They offer multiple lines of mattresses, and one of the most popular is known as Doctor’s Choice.

Some of the key strengths of the Doctor’s Choice mattresses include:

  • Wide range of options: the Doctor’s Choice line of mattresses includes 6 different models, which means that there is a broad array of firmness options, price points, and mattress designs available.
  • Track record of solid reviews: the Doctor’s Choice mattresses have been generally well-reviewed by customers and by independent testers. These mattresses receive higher scores for user satisfaction than most comparable innerspring models.

Potential drawbacks for the Doctor’s Choice mattress include:

  • No free shipping to home addresses: Denver Mattress will ship the Doctor’s Choice mattresses for in-store pickup at no charge, but it costs at least $200 to have it delivered directly to your home.
  • Complicated sleep trial: while the company offers 365 nights to try the mattress, there are numerous terms and conditions. First, you are required to try the mattress for 30 days before initiating a return. Then, after 120 days, you can no longer get a refund, but you get a prorated credit toward purchase of a different mattress.

Warranty

The Doctor’s Choice mattresses come with a 15-year non-prorated warranty. During this time period, the company will repair or replace a mattress with a defect in materials or manufacturing. The customer is responsible for any shipping or transportation costs associated with a warranty claim.

Customer Service

Denver Mattress has been in business since 1972 and has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau. Like many larger and long-standing mattress companies, there are complaints from individuals about customer service issues; however, these appear to be relatively isolated incidents. Overall, they have a solid reputation for customer service.

Mattress Performance

While these are built with a simple, no-frills design, the Doctor’s Choice mattresses have received good customer satisfaction scores and have stood up well in independent testing.

Support

The Doctor’s Choice mattresses do not offer enhanced contouring to the body, but they still offer sufficient support for the majority of sleepers. A resilient innerspring bottom layer provides a base of support that is enhanced by the foam layers above it. People who have extremely pronounced pressure points may find this to be lacking in support, but in general, it scores as well or better than most innerspring mattresses for supportiveness.

Durability

This line of mattresses typically has a lifespan that is equal to or better than comparable innerspring mattress models. These can be expected to perform well for at least 6-8 years and perhaps longer.

Many of the foams used in these models have a density of 1.8 PCF. Typically, we look for higher density foams in comfort layers, but the polyfoam in this case is likely to be dense enough for use in this context.

There are no obvious weak links in the mattress layering that would be expected to give out prematurely, but customers over 230 pounds or who have very significant pressure points may find that these mattresses wear out more quickly than the timeframe mentioned above.

Firmness

Each of the 6 different models has a different firmness level as measured on the typical firmness scale. These are described in the table below.

Mattress Model Firmness Level
Plush 4
Euro Top 5.5
Elite Plush 4
Firm 6.5
Elite Firm 6.5
Elite Euro Top 5.5

Motion Transfer

Innerspring mattresses tend to have more noticeable bounce, and this can contribute to increased motion transfer from one part of the mattress to another. Because there is less contouring from the foams in the comfort layer and quilted top, sleepers can expect to be more aware of movement by a partner or pet. Customers who are focused on finding a top choice for motion isolation may want to opt for a memory foam mattress.

Offgassing

While you can expect some only light new mattress smell after first setting up the Doctor’s Choice mattresses, this smell should be minimal and go away quickly.

Sleeping Hot

The materials used in the Doctor’s Choice mattresses are not ones that are commonly associated with sleeping hot. As a result, we do not expect that most customers would have issues with heat retention on these models.

Shoppers with concerns about heat retention should keep in mind that the more plush models are likely to sleep hotter than more firm models. This is because a sleeper will sink more deeply into a plush mattress, which can prevent airflow around the body.

Intimacy

Given the bounce provided by the innerspring coils, the Doctor’s Choices mattresses do not have a reputation for interfering with sexual activity.
