Brentwood Home has over 3 decades in the mattress industry, and in the past several years has made a big push selling mattresses online. The Oceano mattress, a hybrid that includes two layers of coils, is a newer model that is sold only through the company’s website.
Some of the key strengths of the Brentwood Home Oceano mattress include:
- Coil-on-coil design: while many hybrids have only one layer of coils to provide spring and bounce, the Oceano has two coil layers. The topmost layer of coils is only 2.5” thick, providing more responsiveness while retaining resilience under the memory foam.
- High-density memory foam comfort layer: the foam that makes up the key piece of the comfort layer has a density of 4 PCF, which should help provide a strong and durable sleeping surface over many years of use.
Potential drawbacks for the Brentwood Home Oceano mattresses include:
- Limited track record: the Oceano mattress has not been offered by Brentwood Home for many years, which decreases the amount of data, especially long-term data, that can be useful in evaluating a mattress.

Sleep Trial / Refunds
Each Oceano mattress comes with a 120 night sleep trial. Brentwood Home requires that you keep the mattress for 30 nights before initiating a return. After 30 days and up until 120, you can return the mattress if for any reason you are not satisfied. If you decide to return it, the company will pick it up and provide you with a full refund.
Standard shipping is free with the Oceano mattress. The mattress normally arrives in 5-10 working days after you have placed an order.
For standard shipping, the mattress is compressed and sealed tightly in plastic packaging. It is then put in a large cardboard box that is delivered to your door. When you take the mattress out of all of this packaging, it decompresses and expands to its full size.
If you want white glove delivery, which includes setup of the new mattress and haul-away of your old one, this may be offered in your area by Brentwood Home. You can contact the company for a price quote for this service.
Brentwood Home provides a 25-year limited warranty for the Oceano mattress. During years 1-10, if a mattress is defective then the company will repair or replace it. In years 10-25, the company will replace the mattress but only at a prorated charge. In all years, shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer. Full warranty terms are available at https://www.brentwoodhome.com/pages/warranty.
Brentwood Home started as a brick-and-mortar mattress store roughly 30 years ago in Los Angeles. In 2012, the company began selling directly through their website. The company has a B- rating from the Better Business Bureau but is generally thought to have an average to above average reputation for customer service.
The Oceano mattress has a highly-desirable blend of materials that helps differentiate it from many other hybrid mattresses on the market.
Support is a way of describing how well a mattress keeps the spine in alignment. A central aspect of support is the responsiveness of the mattress. If a mattress is responsive, it means that it can provide more or less cushioning to each part of the body depending on the weight of that part of the body. For example, the shoulders or abdomen often need extra cushioning to prevent them from sinking out of alignment with the rest of the body.
In the Oceano mattress, support is provided by multiple layers including the thick set of coils, the micro-coils, and the memory foam. With individually-wrapped coils, each part of the springs can respond to the body’s weight, while the memory foam offers additional contouring that can relieve pressure points.
This mattress uses generally high-quality materials, including high-density memory foam, that should be expected to last for many years. While we do not have long-term data reflecting this durability, we think the mattress should last 6-8 years or many more.
This mattress is on the plush side of medium-firm: a 4 on the typical firmness scale of 1-10. It is only available in this firmness level.
Mattresses that have a memory foam comfort layer are generally very effective at isolating motion because of the way that memory foam contours to the body and only responds to the places where weight is applied. The springs in this mattress will provide more bounce — and thus some additional motion transfer compared to traditional memory foam — but overall, most sleepers will not have have problems on this mattress from the movement of a partner sharing the bed.
Because there are foam components to this mattress, there will likely be some smell that comes from the mattress when you first set it up in your home. However, there is no health risk from this odor, and it should dissipate quickly (within a few hours or days at most).
Some sleepers may have issues with sleeping hot on this mattress. This can occur because of the softness of the bed and the way that memory foam contours to the body. When someone sinks into memory foam, it can restrict air from moving around the body, which is necessary to keep the skin and body cool. In addition, the memory foam itself starts to heat up, exacerbating the problem of sleeping hot. While this won’t be an issue for many sleepers, it can be a problem for people who are already prone to sleeping hot and who may have better results with a mattress that does not use memory foam in the comfort layer.
Though memory foam can create issues when it comes to inhibiting movement and sex, because of the two layers of coils and the bounce that they provide, this has not been reported as an issue for most customers of the Oceano mattress.
