Brentwood Home sells several different types of mattresses through their website and through major retailers like Amazon and Costco. They categorize their mattresses as either memory foam, latex, or spring based on the key elements of the composition. This review focuses on their innerspring offerings.

Some of the key strengths of the Brentwood Home innerspring mattresses include:

  • Several options available: Brentwood Home offers three different mattresses with distinct characteristics including their layering and firmness. This allows shoppers to compare and contrast to find the mattress that is the best fit for them.
  • Extended sleep trial: for mattresses purchased directly from Brentwood Home, the company offers a risk-free 120 night sleep trial, which is nearly a month longer than what is offered by most competitors.
  • Many price points: with prices ranging from $495 to $1,749, there are budget options available alongside more expensive coil-on-coil options.

Potential drawbacks for the Brentwood Home innerspring mattresses include:

  • Shorter sleep trial on third party orders: Brentwood Home does not extend its 120 night sleep trial to orders purchased from other retailers like Amazon; instead, that retailer’s return policy applies. This may make for a much shorter opportunity to test out the mattress in your own home.
  • Mattress specifications are not disclosed: if you are interested in knowing the density of the foam layers used in the Brentwood Home mattresses or detailed information about the types of coils they use, you’re out of luck. The company does not share this information publicly.

We also have a review for the Brentwood Home latex mattresses and foam mattresses if you’d like to learn more about their other mattress lines.

About the Brentwood Home Innerspring Mattresses

Brentwood Home Mattresses Specifications

Brentwood Home manufacturers 3 different models of innerspring mattresses. Each has a different composition and set of specifications, as described in the table below.

Brentwood Home does not list detailed information about the full specifications of these mattresses. For example, the company does not disclose the densities of the foams used in the support or comfort layers. They also do not provide detailed information about their innerspring coil style. This makes it very difficult to gauge the support and durability of the mattress, and it also makes it hard to comparison shop.

Mattress Model Specifications
Oceano Top: 1” wool
Second: 2” gel memory foam
Third: 2.5” micro-coils
Fourth: 1” ventilated foam
Bottom: 8” innerspring coils
Del Mar Top: 1” wool
Second: 2” gel memory foam
Third: 1” ventilated foam
Bottom: 8” innerspring coils
Avalon Top: 1” wool
Middle: 2” support foam
Bottom: 8” innerspring coils

Many of these mattresses are also advertised with specific features based on their composition. This is a brief overview of some of these that you may find in the product descriptions:

  • Gel memory foam: this type of memory foam has small gel-filled beads interspersed within the foam. The goal of this is to improve cooling, but reviews are mixed about whether it can achieve that effect.
  • Ventilated foam: most of these mattresses have a layer of ventilated foam, which just means that small grooves have been cut into the support foams in order to try to prevent heat retention.

Buying Logistics

Where to Buy

Brentwood Home mattresses are sold through several outlets. Most are available directly from the company on its website. Some are also sold by Costco and Amazon.

Sleep Trial / Refunds

Brentwood Home offers a 120 night sleep trial on mattresses purchased directly from the company. They request that you try the mattress out for 30 days before initiating a return. However, if you are not satisfied with the mattress within the 120 day window, you can get a full refund. In that case, the company coordinates pickup of the mattress from your home.

It is important to be aware that this 120 night sleep trial does not apply to mattresses purchased from third party retailers. This could equate to much shorter trial periods depending on the retailer’s return policy. It also may require a very different return process than the one used for mattresses purchased directly from Brentwood Home.

Shipping is free with your order of a Brentwood Home mattress. In general, you can expect the mattress to arrive 5-10 business days after an order is placed.

Standard delivery does not include any installation services or haul-away of your old mattress. The mattress is compressed inside of plastic packaging that is boxed up and delivered to your door. Once you remove the mattress from its packaging, it decompresses. The mattress will be sleep-ready in just a few minutes, but it may take up to 5 days for it to reach its maximum size and firmness.

People purchasing from third party retailers will want to confirm the shipping details before placing an order. This includes confirming that shipping is free and that the mattress will be delivered within the same timeline as products purchased directly from Brentwood Home.

If you purchase the Oceano mattress model in a King or California King size, then the mattress comes with white glove delivery. This means that the mattress is delivered, taken to the room of your choice, and installed in that room. It does not include haul-away service for your old mattress. The timeline for white glove delivery is 2-4 weeks.

Brentwood Home offers a 25-year limited warranty on its mattresses. During the first 10 years of the warranty period, the company will repair or replace a mattress with a defect in materials or craftsmanship. For the last 15 years, the company will replace the mattress but at a prorated charge. In both cases, shipping costs are the responsibility of the purchaser. You can find full warranty details at https://www.brentwoodhome.com/pages/warranty.

Customer Service

Brentwood Home has been in the mattress business over 30 years in Los Angeles and started their online direct-to-consumer business in 2012. They do not have a rating from the Better Business Bureau but generally are thought of as offering a quality customer experience.

It is important to remember, though, that depending on where the mattress is purchased, Brentwood Home may not provide direct customer service. Instead, service needs may be handled through the retailer who sells the mattress. Because of this, customers should purchase this mattress from a retailer that they are familiar with and that has a good reputation for customer service.

Mattress Performance

Each of the three mattresses in this line features a base layer of 8” of individually-wrapped coils separated into 5 zones on top of which are additional layers of foam and/or micro-coils. With the bulk of the mattress being made up of innerspring coils, these mattresses should be expected to reflect the most common features of that mattress type.

Innerspring coils provide bounce and springiness that most people associate with a standard type of mattress. This can provide a solid base layer of support that can be enhanced by additional layers such as the micro-coils in the Oceano model. In addition, memory foam comfort layers can provide further pressure relief.

We do have some concerns about the Avalon mattress. It has a thin comfort layer of only 2” of foam that does not appear to be memory foam. This may reduce its overall supportiveness and put more pressure on the innerspring coils.

There is limited hard data about the Brentwood Home direct-to-consumer mattresses because they have only been on the market for a few years. Durability may vary based on the model and its composition as there are differences in the type and quality of materials that are utilized.

Models that have lower-density foams in the comfort layers are more likely to suffer from long-term durability problems, but unfortunately, Brentwood Home does not reveal the density of the foams used in these mattresses.

Each mattress model from Brentwood Home is available in only one firmness option; however, options are available for mattresses ranging from extremely plush to firm. You can see a listing of these mattresses on the typical firmness scale in the table below.

Mattress Model Firmness Rating
Oceano 2-3
Del Mar 4-5
Avalon 7-8

Shoppers should be aware that all of these options have a 1” wool top layer. This may have more of a pillow-top feel and could affect how the firmness is perceived by any specific person.

Motion Transfer

Zoned and individually-wrapped coils normally help to reduce motion transfer, and this effect is typically enhanced with memory foam comfort layers. While there may not be as much motion isolation as in a traditional memory foam mattress, it is unlikely that most sleepers would be bothered by motion transfer on these mattresses.

Because there is very little foam in these mattresses, buyers should not anticipate any serious issues with offgassing or smells. Any new material smell should go away rapidly.

Sleeping Hot

Normally, the bounce in an innerspring mattress helps to eliminate the sagging or sinking feeling that can make someone sleep hot. On the more plush Oceano mattress, there may be more of this effect.

Brentwood Home uses several mattress features intended to increase air flow or temperature regulation such as ventilated foam and gel-infused memory foam. While some people find these to be helpful in staying cool, it is hard to truly judge the effectiveness of these design features.

With the solid base of individually-wrapped coils to provide spring and bounce, it is unlikely that sexual partners would report any serious issues related to these mattresses.
