Bob’s Discount Furniture is a chain of retail furniture stores based in the northeast United States that has added a significant online presence. Bob’s Discount Furniture sells mattresses under its own branding, Bob-O-Pedic. The company offers memory foam mattresses, hybrid mattresses, and latex mattresses. This review focuses on the latex foam options.
Some of the key strengths of the Bob-O-Pedic latex mattresses include:
- Budget choice: the ZZZoom mattress, which is delivered as a bed-in-a-box, is available at a competitive price, providing a potential option for budget shoppers.
Multiple contributing layers: while each of these mattresses includes latex as a key part of the comfort layer, they also include other foams and design elements that provide a more diverse feel than latex alone.
Potential drawbacks for the Bob-O-Pedic latex mattresses include:
- Unknown specifications: if you are interested in knowing the density of the foam layers used in the Bob-O-Pedic mattresses, you’re out of luck. The company does not share this information publicly and is vague about other elements of the design of the mattress.
- Not available nationwide: these mattresses are most easily obtained in the Northeast, and many are not available for shipping to other parts of the country or may have expensive costs for shipping.
We also have a review for the Bob-O-Pedic hybrid mattresses and foam mattresses if you’d like to learn more about their other offerings.

About the Bob-O-Pedic Latex Mattresses
Bob-O-Pedic Latex Mattresses Specifications
Bob-O-Pedic sells 2 different latex foam mattresses. Information about their design and composition is listed in the table below.
Bob-O-Pedic does not list detailed information about the full specifications of these mattresses. For example, the company does not disclose the densities of the foams used in the support or comfort layers. For the Retreat mattress, they do not specify the type of latex they use. This makes it very difficult to gauge the support and durability of the mattress, and it also makes it hard to comparison shop.

The ZZZooom mattress is available using the “Bob’s Value Xpress” shipping option. This is a bed-in-a-box models that is delivered sealed in plastic packaging inside a box to your door. Bob-O-Pedic is a sizable chain of furniture stores that has a mixed reputation for customer service. While they sell a large volume of products, including mattresses, they also have had a number of complaints from customers, which is normal for a retailer of their size. They do have an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau.
The two Bob-O-Pedic latex hybrid mattresses use a slightly different configuration of layers, but both designs are intended to help foster a latex-like feel to the comfort layer. Our ability to confidently assess the performance of these mattresses is limited by a few challenges. First, they don’t disclose the details about the foam itself. Second, product lines like these can change over time in terms of their design or foam composition.
That said, we know that these mattresses will reflect the general features of latex, which are discussed in more detail below.
Latex is known for providing a comfort layer with more bounce and resilience than traditional memory foam. At the same time, most latex mattresses are also able to respond to pressure in order to help eliminate pressure points and improve spinal alignment without causing someone to feel as though they are being swallowed by their mattress. Both of these mattresses combine this latex feel with other foams — such as a plush foam or memory foam — to supplement that bounce with a softer feel.
Durability may vary based on the model and its composition because there are differences in the materials that are utilized. Models with lower-density foams are more likely to suffer from long-term durability problems (such as sagging or indentation), but unfortunately, Bob-O-Pedic does not reveal the density of the foams used in these mattresses. Generally, though, latex has a good reputation for durability.
Both the Refresh and the ZZZoom are available in only one firmness level, which is considered to be medium firm (4-6) on the typical firmness scale. Neither mattress is likely to be a great fit for sleepers who want an extra firm or extra plush mattress.
Because it has more bounce and less contouring than traditional memory foam, latex typically permits more motion transfer. Despite this, latex usually offers enough motion isolation to prevent significant sleep disruptions except for people who are very easily awoken from movement.
While latex mattresses usually do not have significant smell issues, each of these mattresses also includes other types of foams that may have some initial smell. These smells are not harmful but may last up to a few days before going away. Extremely smell-sensitive customers may want to look for a mattress with less foam involved in its construction.
The bounce of latex usually prevents sleepers from sinking into the mattress to a degree that would cause someone to sleep hot. The ZZZoom mattress also includes gel-infused memory foam, which is designed to help improve air flow through the mattress. While many customers prefer gel-infused memory foam, reviews are mixed about its ability to actually prevent heat retention.
Latex comfort layers normally provide plenty of bounce for sexual activity, and as a result, this mattress should not be expected to significantly interrupt that activity.
The table below provides a comparison of some mattresses with similarities to the Bob-O-Pedic line of latex hybrid mattresses in terms of construction and feel.
