Bear Mattress, LLC launched its mattress in late 2015 and seeks to differentiate its product based on a specialty material used in the mattress cover.
Some of the key strengths of the Bear mattress include:
- Specialized cover material: the Bear mattress uses Celliant™ textile technology in the composition of its cover. This material uses natural minerals to try to reflect the body’s heat back as far infrared energy, which is promoted as a way to reduce inflammation and promote muscle recovery.
- Balanced feel: the mattress is designed to improve spinal alignment and relieve pressure points while avoiding the more polarizing features of memory foam such as sinking deeply into the mattress and sleeping hot.
Potential drawbacks for the Bear mattress include:
- Only one firmness option: the company only offers a mattress with a firmness that is placed between a 6-7 on the firmness scale. No customization or modification options are available for sleepers who might want a firmer or plusher feel.
- Limited track record: with only a limited time on the market, there is a lack of verified reviews for the Bear mattress, and we don’t have any data on how it performs over the medium- or long-term.

About the Bear Mattress
Bear Mattress Specifications
The Bear mattress is built with three primary layers. The top layer is 1” of memory foam with a density of 4 PCF. The second layer is a total of 2.5” — divided into two pieces — of 3 PCF foam. The bottom layer is 6.5” of 1.8 PCF support foam.
The mattress cover also features a technology called Celliant. This technology turns heat into infrared energy that some studies indicate may increase circulation.
Where It’s Made
The Bear mattress is manufactured in the USA.
Sleep Trial / Refunds
The Bear mattress comes with a 100 night sleep trial. The company requests that you try the bed out for 30 nights, but if you aren’t satisfied, you have up to 100 nights to get a full refund. If you decide to return the mattress, the company arranges to have it picked up.
Be aware that if you purchase a Bear mattress through Amazon, your sleep trial may be shorter as Amazon typically only offers a 30-day return window. Products purchased through Amazon must be returned through the Amazon return process.
Shipping of the Bear mattress is free to the continental United States. After ordering, the mattress usually ships in 1-3 business days and usually arrives within 4-7 business days.
No installation services are offered as part of Bear mattress delivery. Instead, a box with the mattress compressed within plastic packaging arrives at your doorstep. Once you open the packaging, the mattress decompresses. The mattress is ready to sleep on almost immediately after unboxing, but it may take up to 24 hours for the mattress to reach its full size and firmness.
The Bear mattress comes with a 10-year warranty that covers defects in materials or manufacturing. If a defect arises, the company will repair or replace the mattress. Customers may be responsible for some shipping costs related to a warranty repair or replacement. Full details are available at https://www.bearmattress.com/pages/warranty.
We have limited information about the customer service reputation for Bear Mattress, but the company has an A rating from the Better Business Bureau. The company’s founders also have a long history in the mattress industry.
The Bear mattress is designed with many features to make it amenable to a broad range of sleepers, and its Celliant technology in the cover offers a unique element that is not found in most of its competitors, especially at this price point.
Though these are strong design components in concept, there is a dearth of verified reviews or third-party evaluations of the Bear mattress. Because of this, it is difficult to assess the mattress performance with the same level of confidence as with many other direct-to-consumer brands. We will update our review as more information is reported.
The Bear mattress uses several types of foams that are built to help relieve pressure points without the deep contouring that is found with many traditional memory foams. Typically, foams of this type of composition offer sufficient support for most sleepers.
Because the Bear mattress has only been on the market since 2015, more time is needed before we can judge its long-term durability. But the foams used for each layer are all of a high enough density that we would expect this mattress to perform well for 8-10 years.
The Bear mattress is only offered in one level of firmness, which falls around a 6-7 on the typical firmness scale. For people who prefer a more plush or more firm feel, the Bear probably isn’t the right fit, but this mid-level firmness tends to be comfortable for sleepers in most sleeping positions.
As with most foam mattresses, the Bear mattress should perform sufficiently well for most sleepers in terms of motion isolation. The most motion-sensitive sleepers, though, may want to consider traditional memory foam, which typically has the strongest motion isolation properties.
There is not significant smell or offgassing associated with this mattress. Any smell after unboxing should go away within a couple of days.
The Bear mattress is built in large part to avoid sleeping hot. Without the deep sinking effect of traditional memory foam, this mattress avoids the most common cause of sleeping hot. In addition, the Celliant cover should help to reduce heat retention.
Given its overall composition and foam properties, there is no reason to expect that the Bear mattress would inhibit sexual activity.
