Amerisleep was launched in 2010 and was one of the first companies to begin selling foam mattresses entirely through the online, direct-to-consumer channel. They offer 5 different all-foam mattress models.

Some of the key strengths of the Amerisleep line of mattresses include:

  • Wide range of choices: with five models available, customers can choose between several options with different firmness levels, price points, and internal construction.
  • Quality foam density: in all of the models, the foam layers, especially the comfort layer, have solid foam density that should make for a durable mattress over the long term.
  • Celliant textile cover: the Celliant cover uses a unique material that is designed to reduce heat retention and improve the body’s recovery during sleep.

Potential drawbacks for the Amerisleep memory foam mattresses include:

  • Mandatory 30-day minimum sleep trial: Amerisleep requires that you keep the mattress for 30 days before initiating a return. For customers who are new to memory foam and may not like the feel of the mattress, this could be a major downside.
  • Cost: though Amerisleep offers options that won’t break the bank, in general their mattresses are more expensive than many similarly-designed foam mattresses on the market.

About the Amerisleep Mattresses

Amerisleep Mattress Specifications

Amerisleep manufactures 5 different foam mattresses. All of the mattresses have a Celliant cover. Celliant is a textile material that uses natural minerals that are designed to reflect body heat as far-infrared energy. This is promoted as a way to promote muscle recovery and restoration.

Each model has a different internal composition and set of specifications, including foam density and ILD, as described in the table below.

Mattress Model Specifications

Where It’s Made

Amerisleep mattresses are made in the USA.

Buying Logistics

Where to Buy

Amerisleep mattresses are sold via the company’s website, on Amazon, and at one brick-and-mortar location in Arizona.

Sleep Trial / Refunds

Amerisleep offers a 100 night sleep trial on all of its mattresses. The company requires that you try the mattress for 30 nights before initiating a return. Between nights 30 and 100, if you are not satisfied with the mattress, the company will pick up the mattress and provide a full refund.

It is important to be aware that the terms of the sleep trial may vary for mattresses purchased through a third-party retailer like Amazon. Shoppers buying on Amazon should check both with Amazon and with Amerisleep to confirm the details about the return process and the length of the sleep trial.

Amerisleep offers free standard shipping in the U.S. The mattress typically arrives within 4-10 working days after it is ordered.

No setup or installation is included with delivery of the Amerisleep mattresses. These mattresses are all compressed within plastic packaging and shipped to your doorstep in a box. When the mattress arrives, you remove it from the packaging, unroll it, and let it expand. The company recommends allowing 4-6 hours to elapse before sleeping on the mattress. It may take up to 24 hours for it to reach its full size and firmness.

Amerisleep offers a 20 year warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. During the first ten years, the company will replace a defective mattress. During years 11-20, the company will either repair or replace your mattress. The cost of replacing the mattress during this period is 50% of your original purchase price. Any transportation costs associated with a warranty claim are the responsibility of the customer. You can read the full warranty terms at

Customer Service

Like most companies in the direct-to-consumer mattress industry, Amerisleep promotes itself as incredibly customer-friendly. To date, we have no strong evidence that calls the company’s customer care into question. Amerisleep, also known as AstraBeds, has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

Mattress Performance

Each Amerisleep mattress is composed entirely of foam with some featuring extra layers designed to cultivate a specific feel. Overall, these mattresses use quality foams and can be expected to deliver a solid performance representative of most memory foam options.

Customer reviews have generally found that the Amerisleep mattresses offer a reliable amount of support. As with most memory foam mattresses, this support is generated by the contouring effect of memory foam. Because memory foam responds based on the amount of weight and pressure that is applied to it, it can adjust to almost any individual and help to relieve pressure points in the body.

It should be noted, though, that the AS1 and AS2 models have only 2″ of memory foam, which may create support issues for sleepers with major pressure points or for people who are heavier.

When examining the comfort layer of a memory foam mattress, we typically look for a foam density of at least 3.5 PCF. The memory foam is 4 PCF in all of the Amerisleep models, and the other layers also are built with foam of sufficient density. These mattresses – especially the AS3, AS4, and AS5, which have thicker comfort layers –  can be expected to perform well even over many years of regular use.

Each Amerisleep mattress is offered with only one firmness level, but among their five models, there is a range of firmness choices available. You can see a breakdown of the firmness as it corresponds to each model below.

Mattress Model Firmness Rating
AS1 Firm
AS2 Medium Firm
AS3 Medium
AS4 Medium Soft
AS5 Soft

Motion Transfer

One of the biggest strengths of memory foam is motion isolation. The foam only responds where pressure is applied, which means that there is very little disruption to one part of the foam from movement on another part. That said, Amerisleep’s memory foam is built to have more slightly more resilience than traditional memory foams. This may cause a bit more motion transfer but should not cause a disturbance to the vast majority of sleepers.

When you first unroll any memory foam mattress in your home, you can expect an initial new mattress smell. This is not harmful and usually goes away within a few hours or days. Customers do not report this to be any worse with Amerisleep than with comparable all-foam mattress options, but customers who are extremely smell-sensitive may want to look for a mattress composed of non-foam materials.

Sleeping Hot

Some sleepers find that temperature regulation is a problem on memory foam mattresses. The contouring or hugging feeling of memory foam can trap heat and cause a person to sleep hot. This problem can be exacerbated with memory foam that is more plush and facilitates more of a feeling of sinking into the mattress.

To try to counter this, all of the Amerisleep models use a plant-based, open-cell memory foam. The company claims that this type of foam retains significantly less heat because of its composition and the ability of air to move through the open-cell structure.

Most customers don’t find heat retention to be a serious issue with the Amerisleep mattresses, but customers who are very susceptible to sleeping hot may want to choose a firmer mattress or one that is built with a different type of comfort layer.

When putting pressure on a memory foam mattress, some people experience a sinking feeling as the material responds to their weight. This can cause them to feel stuck in the mattress in a way that inhibits motion, which is especially problematic for sex. To combat this, Amerisleep has designed their foam to have slightly more bounce or resilience than traditional memory foams, and as a result, the majority of customers do not find that the Amerisleep mattresses disrupt sexual activity.
